One shop, then two

D H Tire opened in 1987 and has stayed a local, family-owned business ever since. That is long enough in one place that plenty of the people bringing a work truck in today first came here in a parent’s car, which is a kind of reference no advertising buys.

The business grew the way tire shops actually grow. The Automotive Center at 6903 Lyons Ave handled the neighbourhood: cars, trucks, SUVs, the flat on a Saturday morning, the set of wheels somebody had been saving for. Then the commercial side outgrew it. Trucks need equipment the retail bays do not have and a yard a rig can turn around in, so the Truck and Commercial Tire Center opened on 3611 N. McCarty Dr to do that work properly rather than awkwardly.

Today that means one business answering two quite different phones. Someone with a nail in a tire calls (713) 234-0629. A dispatcher with a unit stopped on the shoulder at two in the morning calls (346) 741-5592. Both get the same answer, which is a straight price and an honest account of what the tire actually needs.

How we would rather work

The reviews say it better than we would. People mention being walked through pricing instead of being talked at, and having a repairable tire repaired rather than replaced. One customer put it as no scams and no upsell, which is a low bar the industry has somehow made worth mentioning.

Practically, that shows up as quoting over the phone before you drive out, offering in-house financing when the timing is awkward, carrying used tires for when a new set genuinely is not the right call, and doing most retail work the same day.
