Same day

Flat tire repair and patching

Punctures assessed honestly. Where a tire can be repaired safely we repair it, and where it cannot we will tell you why.

Chapter 01

Not every puncture is repairable, and that matters

A nail through the middle of the tread is usually a straightforward repair. A puncture in the shoulder or sidewall is not, because that part of the tire flexes constantly and no patch holds against that for long. Neither is a tire that has already been driven flat, because the internal damage is done even though the outside looks fine.

Shops that plug anything and send it out are the reason people distrust tire shops. We would rather explain why a tire has to be replaced than hand back something that fails on the Beltway.

How we actually repair one

The tire comes off the rim so the inside can be inspected, which is the step that separates a real repair from a roadside plug. Damage is assessed from both sides, then patched from the inside and sealed so the puncture channel is properly closed rather than filled.

The wheel is rebalanced afterwards, because a patch and the loss of the original weights will put a vibration into the car if nobody bothers. Then pressures get set across all four.

Come to 6903 Lyons Ave or call (713) 234-0629 first. Flat repair is quick work and we can usually take it the same day.

Chapter 03

If you are picking up nails often

One nail is luck. A pattern of them usually means a route past a site or a yard, and the useful response is to check the other three tires properly rather than only the one that went down. It is common to find a second nail sitting in a tire that has not deflated yet.

That is one reason we walk the rest of the car when a tire comes in. Finding the second one on the ramp is a great deal cheaper than finding it on the road.
